Willy Chirino is a Cuban American singer, songwriter, musician, and producer, loved and respected by millions of fans worldwide. He began his artistic career in Miami, releasing his first album in 1974. Since then, he has recorded 39 albums, several of which have attained platinum and gold status. In 2006, his album Son del Alma, won a Grammy® for Best Salsa/Merengue Album. His 35th anniversary album Willy Chirino Live-35th Anniversary garnered him his first nomination for Best Salsa Album at the 2007 Latin Grammy® Awards.
In 1994, Chirino founded the Willy Chirino Foundation which has helped hundreds of families in Peru, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, and the U.S. The mission of the Willy Chirino Foundation is to enable poor and displaced people in the world to lead meaningful lives in their own communities. His philanthropic efforts have been recognized by UNICEF and the Department of State. He has also lent his talents to help raise much-needed funds for orphanages in Mazatlan, La Romana, and a home for Children with Aids in Puerto Rico.
In 2014, Chirino received a Latin Grammy® Lifetime Achievement Award for his stellar music career. In 2021, he received the John S. McCain Freedom Award in Washington, D.C.
