Elizabeth Youth Theater Ensemble
Established in 2015, The Elizabeth Youth Theater Ensemble aims to strengthen young artists' voices. Utilizing theater-arts-based curricula, EYTE provides creative learning opportunities for city and global majorities youth where they gain experiences that empower self and community. Via live performance and multi-media presentations, the participants will continuously investigate what creative courage is and why it's vital to their success and that of their community.
Sustained involvement in theatre arts encourages improvement in the reading proficiency of high school students with low socio-economic status.
Through Mind and Body, students will participate in exercises that increase focus and attention levels, the foundation of all performance. Through Voice and Speech, students will strengthen their diction and vocal presentation skills with the help of trained Voice and Speech mentors for Film and Theater. Through Acting Focus, students will be exposed to various acting techniques: Improvisation, Listening, Reacting, and Discipline. Through Writing Focus, she aims to build the student's confidence in their ability to write and explore their experiences, thoughts, and imaginations. Through Film Focus, students can explore various aspects of the film process: acting, writing, directing, cinematography, and editing. The students will have an opportunity to work hands-on with industry professionals.
EYTE was founded on the unceded land of the Munsee Lenape people. EYTE also acknowledges that it was based upon exclusions and erasures of many Indigenous peoples, including those on whose land this institution is located. This acknowledgment demonstrates a commitment to beginning the process of working to dismantle the ongoing legacies of settler colonialism.
