Encaustic & Mixed Media on Board
36" x 30"

Francesca Azzara received her BFA in Studio Art from Kean University and her AAS in Design from FIT.  Her work is primarily produced at her studio in Rahway.  She is a mixed media artist working in encaustic paints. Encaustics are a wax based paint that permits the application of many transparent layers over a painted canvas surface. Line-work that is incised, scraped and gauged into the waxy surface creates nuanced, edgy imagery that evokes an emotional response.

The recipient of many awards, she received Union County's HEART Grant. The grant allowed Azzara to hold several exhibitions of her encaustic works throughout Union County beginning in the fall of 2000.  Each exhibition included a lecture and demonstration on the history and techniques of encaustic painting. She annually mentors art students as part of the Art Reach Program for City Without Walls, a non-profit gallery in Newark, NJ.

Azzara's work has been exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions throughout the Northeast.  Her work has been featured in galleries and museums such as The State Museum, the Lindenburg Gallery in Chelsea, the Monmouth Museum, the Cork Gallery in New York City, and the Morani Gallery in Philadelphia. Works by Francesca Azzara have been acquired by numerous private and corporate collectors.
