Screening of The Washing Society, presented by the Lewis Center for the Arts’ Program in Visual Arts     Bookmark and Share
To celebrate the reopening of the newly-renovated James M. Stewart ’32 Theater, a series of free film screenings featuring award-winning guest filmmakers will be presented. On October 23 filmmaker Lynne Sachs and playwright Lizzie Olesker screen their film The Washing Society. Inspired by Princeton Professor Tera Hunter’s To ‘Joy My Freedom: Southern Black Women’s Lives and Labors After the Civil War — a depiction of the 1881 organization of African-American laundresses in Atlanta. Professor Hunter will lead a post-screening discussion.
