Born in Livingston, NJ, Gina Minichino grew up with a pencil, pen or marker in her hand. She went on to study cartooning at the School of Visual Arts in New York City with acclaimed cartoonists Harvey Kurtzman, Will Eisner and Sam Viviano. However, it wasn’t until after her four years at art school that she discovered her passion for painting. After graduation, she took a painting class and found it an exciting challenge exploring light and color and creating images in paint.

Of her work she explains “Though sometimes I think my cartooning or humor comes through, I paint in a realist style. I like how my subject takes on a new personality when it is in paint. It excites me to see what transforms and what kind of feeling it conveys to different’s often a surprise to me. I find there is nothing more fascinating than observing the world and trying to capture some of that life in my paintings. The subjects of my paintings are very personal. I paint things that have meaning to me, or move me in some way. I have a wide scope of what I enjoy painting…the figure, portrait, still life and even the occasional landscape.”

Minichino has exhibited at many museums and galleries across the region including the Allan Stone Gallery in NYC, Visual Arts Center of NJ in Summit, Staten Island Museum in New York, Avalanche Art Gallery in NYC, Renee Foosaner Art Gallery at Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ, Braunsdorf Gallery in Westfield, NJ, Artists Gallery in Ridgewood, NJ, and Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ, among others.

Minichino also works as a caricature artist and illustrator and her pieces have appeared in publications for Gadfly Records, Weird NJ Magazine, Skyclad Records, First Amendment Publishing, Chiller Theater Magazine, Wicked Mystic Magazine, Eyefull Press, and Dark Muse Publications. She has also started her own business drawing caricatures at parties.
