Mixed Media
15" x 20"

Before becoming a mixed media and collage artist, Madeliene Celeste Lumen worked as a freelance interior designer in Singapore for 9 years, starting in 1991. In September 2000, she moved to New Jersey and is presently working as an interior designer for Spielze Architectural Group in Trenton, NJ.  Lumen is a member of Artsbridge in Lambertville, the Center for the Arts in Southern New Jersey, and the Freehold Art Society.

She developed a unique medium of expression using papers and other materials with acrylic paint to form representational arts, mainly interpreting her love for nature.  Her artworks range from landscapes and gardens to cityscapes and seascapes.  During her study in fine arts, a professor with a mixed media art background introduced Lumen to his techniques in collage making.  Inspired with this exciting art, she experimented with it, using different techniques in the construction and organization of the materials.  For Lumen, there are no rules and principles in art.  She believes artists can paint what they feel, imagine, and observe. The important element is the present feeling of wanting to create the first impression. Every artwork is a challenge to her. It covers her wide space of thoughts, feelings, and purposes. Her art is an expression and a form of therapy; it isolates her with the present and locks her in the world of freedom and creativity.

Madeliene Celeste Lumen has shown her work in numerous exhibitions including the Art Alliance of Monmouth County in Red Bank, NJ, the Center for the Arts in Southern New Jersey in Marlton, The Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie, and The Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury.
