Afternoon Shadows

8" x 9"

Marge Levine is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in textile design. Over the years, she has built an enviable resume as a textile designer, book illustrator, greeting card publisher, and colored-pencil landscapist. However, for the past four years she has been working exclusively in pastels. Levine has been doing demonstrations and teaching classes in that medium for various art groups.  She is a recipient of many prizes for her work, not only in pastels but also in other mediums. These mediums include etching, pen & ink, and colored pencils.

Of her work she explains, “Although my pastels ultimately reflect the color, the design and the subtle forms of nature, I build these effects on solid, formally precise drawings.”  She is a member of the Degas Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of America, and the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast, as well as a signature member of the Pastel Society of Cape Cod.

Marge Levine’s work has been shown in exhibitions across the United States and Canada.  In 2005, she was accepted into five national pastel shows, and has won awards in The American Impressionist Society show in 2005 and 2006, the Pastel Society of America show in 2005, the National Northeast Pastel Society show in 2005, and the Pastel Society of the West Coast show in 2005.  She is also the first of two recipients to receive an International Artists Pastel Societies/Urania Christy Tarbet scholarship.  In print, her work has appeared in the volume One Hundred Ways to Paint the Landscape, and was showcased in the April 2006 edition of American Artist magazine.  In New Jersey, Marge Levine’s work can be seen at the Jacklyn Kling gallery in Montclair, the Fredericks gallery in Allenhurst, and at Atlantic Artisans gallery in Atlantic Highlands.
