A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Diana Gonzalez Gandolfi has been living and working in the US since 1965.  A painter, printmaker and teacher, she was educated at the Art Students League, Hunter College, the Boston Museum School, and Tufts University where she received a BFA.  She also holds a M.Ed. in Arts from Lesley College.  She has been the recipient of numerous awards including two Traveling Fellowships from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in 1975 and 1983, a Distinguished Artist Award and Printmaking Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in 1986, as well as two Painting Fellowships in 1991 and 1994.

Preferring to work with encaustics, Diana Gonzalez Gandolfi enjoys the manual labor of scrapping and layering, combined with the exploration of different ideas and concepts.  Each encaustic work is made of multiple layers of melted colored wax and painted, stenciled, and scratched.  Collaged images are often imbedded in each layer.  As each layer is added, it is fused to the previous one by means of a heat source.  Of her work she states, “The nature of my work is autobiographical, a veiled visual diary of my experiences. Through the process of art-making I search for a better understanding of my feelings and thoughts. Time and memory are my subjects and the work is full of familial, cultural, and political influences.”

Since 1978, Gonzalez Gandolfi has exhibited widely throughout the country, represented by the Simon Gallery in Morristown, NJ and Kelly Barette Fine Arts Gallery in Boston, MA.  Her work is in numerous private and corporate collections including the Johnson & Johnson Collection, Rutgers University, Princeton University, IBM, Fidelity Management Corporation, The Bank of Lichtenstein, Morgan Guaranty Trust, and the New Jersey Department of Treasury.  Her prints can be found in the permanent collections of the Noyes Museum, the Brevard Museum of Art in Melbourne, FL, and the Hingham Public Library in Hingham, MA.
