Christopher Freeman was born in Grenada, West Indies in 1962.  He graduated with a BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics, Division of Art and Design at Alfred University in 1984.  There, he focused on ceramics and glass, incorporating the use of light.

Freeman operates his own architectural and artistic lighting firm specializing in Neon and Cold Cathode lighting here in New Jersey.  In the studio, Freeman works in controlled environments with clay and other materials and outside, he works in landscapes creating light sculptures in existing environments. The artist relates his concern as being “how light can alter a space and hence, affect our mood and how we interpret that space.”

Freeman has taught at the New York Experimental Glass Workshop in Brooklyn, NY providing instruction in “Light as Sculpture”, a course in neon and other light sources.  Presently, he teaches ceramic sculpture at the School of Visual Arts in NYC.  His artwork has been shown at galleries throughout the country and has been published in various books and magazines.  He is also the recipient of various awards and honors.
