Walter Culbreth is a retired biochemical scientist from American Cyanamid in Princeton. His focus is on printmaking and he utilizes mathematical concepts, the computer, and classical printmaking methods such as woodcut and etching. In June 2003, Culbreth spent a short time in Paris gathering ideas for an exhibit in the fall of 2004.  He has lectured for years on the relationship between art and science.

Of his work he states, “Nature obeys, for some unknown reason, mathematical laws. The making of art requires time, space, and information. The more information the better, thus allowing me to put many ideas in the 'information pot’; Ideas that have been tested can be incorporated in the never-ending creative process or discarded. Time has allowed me to eliminate the nonessentials with conviction and style.”

Some of his exhibitions include Still Working: New Jersey Artists at the Bristol Myers-Squibb Gallery in Lawrenceville, NJ, From the Woodcut to the Gene at the Capitol Health Center in Trenton, Glimpses of America at the Mercer County Community College, and the Carriage House Gallery in Cape May.
