Sonia Chusit was born in New York City and graduated from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Sciences and Art with a Fine Arts degree. The focus of her studies was painting, drawing, and sculpture.  While studying at Cooper Union she received a government bond for being an outstanding student.  She has devoted her career to being a fine artist and has succeeded in doing so.   Chusit has received awards from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Vermont Studio Center and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Of her work she states, “Spatial concerns have always been a dominant concept in much of my work and the skyscape theme is the focal point for these new works. What is most intriguing for me is the vastness and mystery of our universe with its multiple variations and forms. As an artist who is aware of our technological surroundings I still am in touch with a personal vocabulary and need to combine the intellectual and the emotional. My visceral response is to set these thoughts into a human scale in my paintings.”

Her works have been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions including at the Bergen Museum of Art and Science in Paramus, NJ, Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ, the Robeson Center Gallery at Rutgers University in Newark and the Morris Museum.  Chusit has also been part of group exhibitions at the Printmaking Council of NJ, City Without Walls, Aljira Center for Contemporary Art, and the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts.  Her work is in the collections of Johnson & Johnson World Headquarters, Hirschl Collection, Touchstone Gallery, Bergen Community College and the Butler Institute of American Art.
