Katrina Bello is an artist who works in Newark and Montclair, NJ and in Manila, Philippines. She works primarily in painting and drawing. She attained her BFA from the Mason Gross School of the Arts in Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, and her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. She has exhibited in the United States and the Philippines, and her work is in numerous private collections.

Bello writes: "My still life and landscape paintings and drawings are based on memories and close observations of things seen in my hikes in forests, beaches, deserts, salt marshes, and wildlife refuges. Weeds, fallen or dying trees, tree bark, dried leaves, swamp plants, rocks, mushrooms and spider webs and other common things found in these natural environments become the imagery that find their way to my canvas and paper. I'm interested in the idea that the most ordinary things carry extraordinary potential when translated into images. All in all, I see the work as visual analogies of our relationship with the natural world, with references to topics about the human condition such as growth, decay, chaos and rebirth.

Currently, I am working on a series of charcoal drawings and installation based on my experiences of making my own drawing medium from charred coconut shells and driftwood found from the black sand beaches when I was a preteen, growing up in Davao City, Philippines where I was born and raised.

Katrina Bello is currently a part of this group exhibit:
