Mt. Laurel, NJ
Painting, Drawing

Artwork Details
Brubeck's Mouthful of Rawhide and Tennis Ball
Oil on canvas

Karol writes: "First, and foremost, I am an artist.  Animals are my specialty, and I create mischievous, expressive oil paintings, beautiful murals, and quirky illustrations.  Painting is my passion, and all my works are lovingly and humorously crafted.  My style is expressionistic and detailed, mixing realism, illustrative and whimsical images...all with a twist of personality and wit.  My murals, oils, and illustrations can be seen in person and commercial spaces, from children's rooms to libraries to children's books.  My goal is to capture that humor and spark of life that I see in all creatures and things and relay that beauty to the canvas."

Karol Greene Baker is an artist whose works in the media of oils, illustration, and murals, have gained her much acclaim as well as personal satisfaction.  Her dreamy, stylized illustrations and finely detailed and often-whimsical creations, painted in rich, lush colors, showcase her love of the craft and display her mischievous sense of humor.

With subjects and projects as diverse as fairy tale murals to aquatic cocktail parties to animated animals to Willie Mays, Karol has offered her sublime and, at times, sideways take on all things awaiting her view and her brush.

Karol is a graduate of Rutgers University, Camden, with a BA in fine arts, where she received the 1995 Mary Jane Kelleher Willie Memorial Prize and the Stedman Art Away.  Karol's works have been accepted in juried exhibits and nationally, and Karol has also illustrated numerous children and young adult books.  Her special passion is painting animals, where she captures the "animal essence" and mixes it with a "human essence."  Karol pulls the viewer up close so they don't miss the expression of a dog about to lunge for a ball, or one sleepily raised eye of a snoozing cat.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, and residing in Mt. Laurel, NJ with her husband Dan and their "spirited" Bordern Collie/Jack Russell terrorist dog, Brubeck, Karol creates her art while trying to keep the rest of her household sane.  She also teaches painting classes to seniors at the Evergreens Retirement Community in Moorestown and at the YMCA in Mt. Laurel and Burlington, NJ.

Karol's Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Mural is permanently on view at the Cherry Hill Public Library in Cherry Hill, NJ.  The mural measures approximately 37-feet wide and 9-feet high.
