Artwork Details
“A River Runs Naked”
Oil, llama fiber

I am currently working on a collection of images in fibers, oils, and fiber-inspired processes. I raise llamas and alpacas for their fiber on my farm, Heaven's Gate, in Blairstown, NJ, near the Delaware Water Gap. The work includes landscapes, figures, portraits and abstractions in which the llama fiber is used for sculptural collage and in felted, embroidered, handspun and handwoven images, in combination with oil paints. Some images are inspired by fiber processes--canvases fragmented like quilt forms, woven dual image canvases, and felted sculptural forms. The landscapes are all inspired by scenes from my farm and natural settings around the Delaware Water Gap, emphasizing the growth and energy in nature.

Lydia Chiappini has worked as an artist in the areas of oils, acrylic, watercolor, bronze, clay and fibers since the early 1970's.
