Martin Beck is the recipient of New Jersey State Council on the Arts 1994, 1995, and 2000 Fellowships. He graduated with his BFA “Cum Laude” from the State University of New York: Buffalo and his MFA from Carnegie Mellon University.

In regard to his work, he states: “As an artist, I am an observer and interpreter of contemporary culture. My work is not linked to any style or movement; rather it is involved in the timeless and unfolding theater of life. Thematically my work belongs to an American tradition of humanism that began at the turn of the twentieth century. My subject is the omnipresent urban scene, which extends into all aspects of culture. Much of my work challenges the complacency of would-be arbiters of content, ethics and morality, whatever their socio-political position. My work is not prescriptive, and does not present answers to difficult cultural questions. It instead uncovers these questions and compels the viewer to reckon with challenging and sometimes painful truths.”

Beck has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His works are also featured in various collections across the country, including permanent public and private collections.
