Ellen Gavin was born in Philadelphia, PA, and now lives in the Glasstown Arts District in Millville, NJ, where she runs Green Boots Studio. An oil painter, she has received such awards as the Noyes Museum Hammonton Plein Air 2011 1st place Award and the Millville Plein Air 2009 1st Place Painting. Her work has appeared at the Philadelphia Sketch Club, the American Academy of Equine Art, and the "NIPPER" public art project "Leader of the Pack" in Moorestown, NJ.

She has been included in numerous private collections and in public collections such as Ocean City Art Center and has appeared in publications such as Who's Who in American Art. A graduate of Tyler School of Art, she continued to study at the Art Student League and the Museum of Natural History in New York and at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters.

Ellen says, "True inspiration is a gift ... separate from the work of painting. It appears sporadically and is exhilarating. Between those moments I keep painting. My subject interest is broad...but my approach to painting is always consistent. I like ideas, to tell a little story, and I must paint with energy and directness.

"I am a realist. From a viewing distance my paintings are solid form, but, as you move closer, reality dissolves into the abstract quality of paint into paint. This I find quite magical. Continually searching for the combination of story, composition, and finally paint quality makes a new exciting work of art. When the painting connects with people, it's finished. The viewer finally completes the painting; it becomes part of their life."

Ellen's work is on view at Green Boots Studio in the Glasstown Arts District in Millville, NJ.
