Carol Taylor-Kearney is a life-long resident of southern New Jersey. A graduate with a BA in Art Education from Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, and an MFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, she has had a rich career as artist and art educator.  After graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, she was named Coordinator of Graduate Studies.  She later acted as an adjunct Professor of Art at Burlington County College and Rowan University.  A former commissioner on the Gloucester County Cultural and Heritage Commission, Carol has also served as a jurist and curator for regional exhibitions including West Deptford Library gallery, Ocean City Arts Center, Burlington County College, the Art Lab at Rowan University, and the Philadelphia Sketch Club.  She was also an associate curator for exhibitions at StrataSphere in Philadelphia.

Collection of found material and the narrative play a role in Carol Taylor-Kearney’s work.  She constructs a “literal,” visible interpretation of the history of the picture plane and an open-ended story.  Beginning with reverse painting on glass, she starts behind the window-view of the picture plane moving outward to the shallow, sometimes decorated and carved space of the casement.  Surface embellishments and add-ons exist in the viewer’s space, while shared subjects, themes, and design elements connect the different panes and planes to each other to form the narrative.

Taylor-Kearney has received many fellowship and residency awards including a Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Grant to the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT, a grant from the Artist Fellowship, Inc. in NYC, and an award by the Violette de Mazia Trust to study at the Barnes Foundation and Villanova University.  She was also selected as a resident artist at the Pouch Cove Arts Foundation in Newfoundland, Canada.  In January of 2007, Carol was a guest artist at Peters Valley in Layton, NJ through funding by the New Jersey State Council of the Arts and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.

Taylor-Kearney has exhibited regionally and her work is part of several corporate, public, and private collections.  She has exhibited her work in a solo exhibition at ETS Connant Hall Gallery in Princeton, NJ and in juried group exhibitions at Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, CT and the Delaware Center for Creative Arts in Wilmington, DE.  In October 2006, she was part of Visions of Liberty at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, PA.
