Laurinda Stockwell is a mixed media artist working in photography, sculpture, and collage. Originally from Ohio, she has worked and lived in New Jersey for over ten years.  She received her BFA from Columbus College of Art in Columbus, Ohio and her MFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.  She has received grants and awards on local, state, and national levels as an artist and art educator, including the1996 Art: New Jersey award.

On her work, Barry Schwabsky of the New York Times states: “Her technique involves transferring photographic images onto sheets of fabric or paper, which hang loosely from grommets rather than being stretched or framed. Her imagery is drawn from nature, often referring to water, yet she uses this imagery as building blocks for a more abstract whole. One feels that her affinities are with Monet's late paintings of water-lilies and with Jackson Pollock's 'all-over’ interlacings of dripped and poured skeins of paint.”

Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout the US and in Asia.  In 2000, her art traveled through Russia to four museums including Moscow and Odessa. She is represented by Beatrice Conde Gallery in NYC and Hand Artes Gallery in New Mexico.  Stockwell has completed two large-scale public art commissions for the NJ Transit train system’s Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.
