Stan Sperlak was born in 1960 in Denver, Colorado. Stan was raised in Hawaii, New York, and Minnesota before settling in Cape May, New Jersey in 1976, after his father Stephen completed a long and distinguished military career. The years spent traveling and meeting new people not only influenced his love of landscapes but also turned him into an explorer of sorts.

While pursuing a career in garden design, Sperlak attended classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for three years to sharpen design and drawing skills for his construction clients.  After being introduced to landscape painting by Academy teacher Jill Rupinski, Sperlak continued this effort and became a student of Pat Witt of Millville and the Maurice River School of Art. "The community of artists in the Cumberland County region is like a giant family, an affect that Pat has on her students is one of total love of life, and the earth and her wonders."

Working primarily in soft pastel on coated grounds that he prepares, the majority of his works are completed at the place of their titles. He can be found working near local waterways, farm fields, and forests in Cape May County. “There is a truth to what you know, what you smell and how it feels.  If I have been truthful in my work, then the seeing part will become the feeling part for others.”  Stan Sperlak credits his interest in art to seeing his mother Patricia work endlessly on crafts and ceramics to make ends meet, along with her clever and continuous holiday decorating schemes of their childhood home.

Sperlak is represented by Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor, NJ and is also a member of the Riverfront Renaissance Art Center in Millville and The Cape May County Art League.
