Photographer James Shull was born and raised in California, with the west-coast influence he grew up with still lingering to this day. His interest in photography began while working in a printing press, while attending a boarding school on the pacific coast near Monterey. His experience with conventional printing and a complete immersion in school publications left him permanently transfixed with the art form. His education continued in the early 1990’s while pursuing a major in photography at the Brooks Institute of Photography. In his attempts to find the “recipe” for making a living as a fine-art photographer, he has explored many awkward venues that have resulted in a very fluid lifestyle. By never living in the same place for more than a few years, his photographs are predicated on building a connection with the place he is living in at the time. Right now, Southern New Jersey is providing him with an unlimited supply of visual opportunity.

James Shull’s work has been featured at the Atlantic County Library’s Mays Landing Branch as part of The Noyes Museum of Art’s Atlantic County Libraries Exhibition. Exhibitions with his work were also installed in the Longport and Ventnor Branches.
