84" x 72"

Joanie San Chirico is a full-time studio artist with widespread experience, exhibiting both nationally and internationally.  She was commissioned to construct two 6 by 7 foot “soft paintings” for permanent display in the atrium of the new Ocean County Library Headquarters in Toms River, NJ.  In addition to commissions and exhibitions, San Chirico is an independent curator who has created exhibits of contemporary fiber art in New Jersey, Texas, and New York City.  Exhibitions she has curated include Beyond the Stitch II, Regional Fiber Art Invitational at Ocean County Artists’ Guild in Island Heights, NJ, and Common Thread: Juried Exhibit by NJ/NY SDA Members at Phoenix Gallery in NYC.

Beginning in 2006, San Chirico was working on two series, Artifacts and Environmental. In her Artifacts series, she integrates her love of the stitch with her fascination with the past. The Environmental series showcases natural surfaces using beautiful imagery to remind the viewer of what could potentially be lost. She uses various pigments, dyes, stitching and manipulation of cloth, paper, and paint to achieve the illusion of a natural patina.

San Chirico has an extensive exhibition record.  In New Jersey, she has shown her work at the Riverfront Center for the Arts in Millville, Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts in Long Branch, The Pierro Gallery in South Orange, Ocean County Artists' Guild in Island Heights, Clifton Arts Center, The Arts Guild of Rahway, the Noyes Museum of Art in Oceanville, and many others. Her work is also held in numerous public and private collections in the US and Europe.
