Thom Reaves has been an artist since he was a small child. He graduated from the Pratt Institute in 1988 with a BFA in Communications Design. His career has included working as an artist, illustrator, graphic designer, and retail store manager. He worked for several years as a neon artist in New York City at Let There Be Neon. He has created two cover illustrations for Celebrations magazine, and has been commissioned to design and create posters, comic strips, and children's books.

The inspiration for the Trento! poster series began with the idea of starting a souvenir shop for New Jersey's capital city as it works toward becoming a tourist destination. “The Trento! poster series is a wink at the city, though it’s taken on a life of its own and established its own identity,” explains  Reaves. “I like to play with words, language, and visual puns. The genre comes from my graphic design background, as I've always loved posters and the world of logos, gas station signs, bold graphics, and such. My style is influenced by artists such as Cassandre, Leyendecker, Gibson, Beardsley, Klimt, Hundertwasser, and Warhol. It is loose and all about color and strong images.”

Reaves has previously exhibited in group shows at the J&W Gallery and Graphix Gallery, both in New Hope, PA, and at the Rhinehart-Fischer Gallery and City Hall in Trenton, NJ. His solo exhibitions include Café Galleria in New Hope, PA and the Chapin School in Princeton, NJ. He also exhibits his work for Trenton's monthly “First Friday” celebrations in his own space called GAS (Gallery and Studio) on the second floor of the Trenton Makes Building on South Broad Street.
