David Poppie received his MFA from the University of Wisconsin.  Of his work he states, “My recent work involves the reclaiming of disposable objects in mass to create two and three dimensional works. Pieces can involve tea bags, matchbook strikes, plastic cutlery, etc. These items are generally disregarded and ignored by the everyday person. Through the gathering of the discards of contemporary culture, I ask the viewer to reconsider the function and value of these objects. I also reassign their value by re-contextualizing them by creating a piece of art from them. Besides the formal issues that interest me, based in the Minimalist school, that are utilized, I also am making a commentary on the disposable nature of contemporary culture.”

David Poppie's work has been on view at numerous locations including the Jersey City Museum, Jay Barrows Fine Art in Richmond, VA, Art Access Gallery in Columbus, OH, New Union Center for the Arts in Oberlin, OH, and Gallery 76 - Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee, WA. Poppie has also shown in many group exhibitions including the Irving Goldman Community Gallery, Victory Hall, and the Wedgeworks Gallery, all in Jersey City, NJ. His works are included in the permanent collections of the William Rainey Harper Print Collection in Palatine, IL, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Wisconsin.
